'It: Chapter 2': Director Andy Muschietti Debuts First Look At James McAvoy's Character In Horror Sequel

We haven’t even begun the warm, blockbuster-filled months of the 2019 summer movie season yet, but already, it’s time to look past those tentpoles to talk about the fall and horror season. Specifically, we’re here to talk about the highly-anticipated sequel to the surprise 2017 worldwide phenomenon, “It.”

This September, horror fans are in for a treat, as director Andy Muschietti returns to Derry with a new cast for “It: Chapter 2.” And as a treat for fans, as well as a happy birthday message to one of the cast members, Muschietti took the time to share what looks to be the first official image of James McAvoy, who plays the adult version of Bill Denbrough in the sequel.

For those that aren’t familiar with the novel from horror icon Stephen King, “It: Chapter 2,” tells the second half of the story that the author debuted decades ago. The loveable children from the first film survived to live another day, but that all changes with Pennywise the Clown comes back years later to terrorize the town of Derry one more time.

While we don’t know how this will happen in the new film, it’s said that the director is bringing back the kids from the first film, presumably in flashbacks. However, the bulk of the film will likely follow their adult counterparts, led by McAvoy. The rest of the new cast includes Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, James Ransone, Jay Ryan, and Isaiah Mustafa.

We’re hoping to get a trailer for the film soon, but judging by the success of the first film and the star-power of this new cast, it would appear that Muschietti and the rest of the folks behind the scenes are pretty much guaranteed to have another monster hit on their hands.

“It: Chapter 2” hits theaters on September 6.
