James Gunn Teases A New DC TV Project After 'Peacemaker'

James Gunn has been very upfront with wanting to continue work at Warner Bros. on more DC superhero projects. We’ve seen him jump immediately from “The Suicide Squad” to the “PeacemakerHBO Max series (and he has talked about wanting to make more seasons). But apparently, he’s already working on what will be his next DC project.

According to an interview with Collider, James Gunn teased that he is already working on what will be his third project with WB/DC. Though he’s not spilling the beans about what exactly it might be, other than it will bring him back to TV.

“You know, we’re stepping forward. It keeps happening,” said Gunn about his relationship with WB/DC. “We’ll see what’s happening, and I’ll know what’s happening very shortly. I dealt with it last night and this morning.”

He added, “It’s TV. There you go.”

As for what that TV series might be, that’s anyone’s guess. Fans continue to push for Gunn to tackle bigger projects, such as with the top-tier characters like Superman or Batman. However, judging by the filmmaker’s history, it’s almost 99% certain that his next DC TV project will be another C-list character who he is able to mold how he wants.

But before he starts work on a new TV series, he’s in the middle of working back at Marvel Studios on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which is supposed to arrive next year. So whatever new TV series he’s involved in will likely have to wait until his Marvel time is over.

As for his current project, “Peacemaker” debuts later this week on HBO Max. And interestingly, he recently talked about bringing on another C-list character for the series, Vigilante. But things on the Vigilante front weren’t always smooth, as he had to recast the character, by hiring Freddie Stroma, after shooting 5-and-a-half full episodes with original actor Chris Conrad. For the reasons why Conrad didn’t continue, he mentioned being on different pages creatively and also the actor’s reluctance to keep going with the character, which does suggest Season 2 is more likely than we previously knew.
