Jason Bateman In Talks To Helm A New 'Clue' Film Starring Ryan Reynolds

In 1985, Paramount released the comedy film “Clue,” based on the popular board game of the same title. The film was a financial flop at the time, but over the last 3+ decades, “Clue” has become a cult classic and a comedy that many look at as one of the best of that era. But Fox/Disney see the film as ripe for remaking, as the studio is moving forward with a new version of the film, with some big names attached.

Deadline is reporting that Fox/Disney is in talks with Jason Batemen to direct and star in a new “Clue” film. The report also says that Batemen will co-star in the film with none other than Ryan Reynolds. Both men are said to also be developing the script for the film together. As far as remakes go, having Bateman and Reynolds attached to a comedy film seems to be a good starting point.

Of course, “Clue” will tell the story of a murder and the various folks that are accused of the crime. Much like an Agatha Christie story, “Clue” is a whodunnit game with players trying to guess the perpetrator of the crime and the weapon of choice. The 1985 film is probably best known for its unique theatrical run, where the film featured three different endings that would be shown at different theaters. So, if you wanted to see all three endings, audiences would have to see the film at different locations. Once the film reached home video, the three scenes were all included.

“Clue” has been in development for almost two years with Reynolds attached. Previously, he was going to develop the film with his “Deadpool” writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. We’ll have to wait and see if Bateman is the addition that is necessary to get this new film off the ground.

With the way modern technology has advanced, there’s a chance that Bateman and Reynolds can do something special and different with the new “Clue.” I mean, it feels as if they should, right? If a 34-year-old film can be more innovative than something released today, then what’s the point? Well, probably making money is the point, My bad.

There’s no release date set for “Clue.” It’s likely not coming anytime soon as Bateman is just now beginning work on the new season of “Ozark” and Reynolds has plenty of projects on his plate.
