'The Jesus Rolls' Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look Yet At John Turturro's 'Big Lebowski' Spin-Off

Normally, when we share a film’s trailer that is in another language, that’s because it’s a foreign film and the international markets are releasing the project in theaters before it makes its way to North America. So, sadly, unless you speak the native language, you’re out of luck. But at least the images are great, right? Well, for “The Jesus Rolls,” the film is definitely in English, but those pesky Italian folks who are getting the film well before North America have taken it upon themselves to dub the new trailer, leaving English-speaking folks once again watching for the images.

That being said, this is our official first look at the new film that is written by, directed by, starring John Turturro and can be seen as a spin-off/sequel-ish thing to the Coen Brothers’ iconic “Big Lebowski.” Ditching the Dude and most of the rest of the cast from the 1998 film, “The Jesus Rolls” focuses on the title character, Jesus Quintana, who had a small, but memorable, role in the Coen’s film.

“The Jesus Rolls” is a thriller about a group of misfits that find themselves on the wrong side of a dispute with a gun-toting hairdresser. Now, the group of friends has to escape the law, the hairdresser, and everyone else, while bonding together like a weird, outcast family unit.

As mentioned, Turturro is the man behind this film, as both the originator and star of “The Jesus Rolls.” The Coens lent their permission for him to tell this story in the ‘Lebowski’ universe, but don’t really have anything to do with the finished product. However, there is a strong cast featuring Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, Jon Hamm, Susan Sarandon, and Pete Davidson.

“The Jesus Rolls” arrives in Italy soon (obviously) and will finally hit the US in early 2020.

Here’s the synopsis:

THE JESUS ROLLS follows a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.
