Joe Eszterhas Turns His Scary Encounter With Mel Gibson Into An eBook 'Heaven And Mel'

nullThe last credit Joe Eszterhas has for screenplay work is in 2006, for the Hungarian film "Children Of Glory" (he also got his name on "Basic Instinct 2" for creating the characters). And while he made brief headlines last year when his new script "Lust" got music video helmer Hype Williams attached, nothing has been heard since. In fact, he's now most famous for being on the unfortunate end of a Mel Gibson tirade, one that he used to help boost the profile of The Wrap who breathlessly and desperate wrung every drop out of the story (and of course, reported on this). And now, he's written a 30,000 word book about the ordeal. We're not fucking kidding.

Brilliantly titled "Heaven And Mel," Eszterhas says of the book, “On a human level it’s a great story, and it can’t be told in a nine-page letter. Much of it is amusing, some of it is very serious and has to do with anti-Semitism and questions of values. But mostly it’s just very human. I view it as a terrific tale.” That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is as an excuse to publish emails from Mel Gibson, which apparently this will include, featuring such out of context quotes as: “JUST GOT BOUNCED OFF HANGOVER. NO ONE WILL TELL ME WHY. THIS TOWN SUCKS!” Truly riveting.

At least this won't cost you too much, with Kindle Single selling for a mere $2.99. In case you care, Amazon will release this on June 6th and we suppose it will be good, trashy, exploitative, unnecessary summer reading for the beach. No word yet if Mel's lawyers are at the ready, but we presume this isn't the last we'll hear on this story. null
