Joe Johnston's 'Captain America' Casting Imminent; Sequels To 'Fast & Furious,' 'Enchanted' & 'Underworld' On The Way

“Captain America” director Joe Johnston has said that an announcement about who will be leading his film can be expected “within the next couple of weeks.” Shooting will begin this June with the production “getting ready to go to the U.K.” Anyone else find it ironic ‘Captain America’ will film in England? Or that the internet seems to be casting Brit John Barrowman as the Cap? Pic will hit July 22nd, 2011.

God, it’s up to 5 already? Universal are putting into development, “Fast Five,” the fifth installment of the ‘Fast And Furious’ franchise. Justin Lin, Chris Morgan and Neal Moritz return as director, writer and producer respectively as does Vin Diesel and Paul Walker who recently returned after sitting out the third installment, presumably unable to earn any decent money elsewhere. Diesel recently posted on his Facebook page that the new material is a “saga” with lots of “sexy locations.” Okay then.

AnnaSophia Robb will star in a biopic of one-armed surfer Bethany Hamilton, “Soul Surfer. As we previously reported Dennis Quaid dropped out of Steven Soderbergh’s “Knockout” to join Helen Hunt to play her parents while American Idol star Carrie Underwood will be making her feature film debut playing a church youth leader. Unfortunately, Sean McNamara who directed the ‘Bratz’ movie will be helming.

Daryl Hannah is teasing that she may return in “Kill Bill 3” or whatever the Quentin Tarantino picture is eventually called. “He always meant it as a trilogy,” she told Film24 about QT’s plans. And as for the fact that her character has both her eyeballs ripped out in “Kill Bill 2” and was thought to be left for dead? Hannah responds, “Think about it. There’s always been a tradition of blind samurai, and you never actually saw [my character] expire in the other film.” OK, sure, if you say so.

Will Patrick Stewart return as Professor X in Bryan Singer’s “X-Men Babies,” errr… “X-Men: First Class”. Maybe not. Stewart recently said he doesn’t expect to be involved, however did add that “working with Ian [McKellen] again would be wonderful.” Though McKellen himself said he probably wouldn’t be right to play a much younger version of himself (lame, “X-Men: The Last Stand” CGI trickery aside).

A sequel to the Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden led Disney fantasy “Enchanted” is also in the works. Anne Fletcher will return to the helm.

Writer Matt Stone, who previously penned forgettable films such as “Intolerable Cruelty,” “Big Trouble” and “Soul Men” with former partner Bob Ramsey has struck out on his own and sold a spec script called “The Romance Writer” to Fox 2000. The story focuses on “a man who has secretly enjoyed an extremely successful career as a romance novelist while writing under a female pseudonym. Things get complicated when he falls for a woman who turns out to work for his new publisher.” We just hope it’s better than his previous work.

A fourth ‘Underworld’ film with Len Wiseman filming in 3D is reportedly on the cards. Hoping for fourth time lucky are they?

Russell Mulcahy will be directing MTV’s new “Teen Wolf” film starring Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O’Brien.
