It’s been a while since Judd Apatow directed a film. The comedy producer has given us some of the best and some of the most successful comedies of the past decade, like “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” “Superbad,” “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” and more, but he hasn’t directed a narrative feature film since “Trainwreck.” His next film, a comedy inspired by “Saturday Night Live” star Pete Davidson and his life, may have finally got the title “King of Staten Island”, as revealed in an invitation to a test screening.

Given that it’s a test screening and we haven’t heard anything else on the movie in a while, the title may not be final. But since the film is set to be released next June, it makes sense that we would find out about at least the title sometime soon. In case you’ve never heard on Pete Davidson, the film will reflect his life as a comedian, including the loss of his firefighter father on 9/11. Sadly, there are no news about whether the kings of the other boroughs will appear, or whether anyone in the film will slowly name all 5 boroughs and then make a fist like in “Gotti.”
Like he did with Amy Schumer in “Trainwreck,” Apatow’s film will give Davidson a chance to play a version of himself. Apatow has most recently produced the Netflix show “Love,” starring Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust, and the HBO show “Crashing” starring Pete Holmes.
“King of Staten Island,” if it ends up being titled that, is set to star Davidson, Bel Powley, Bill Burr, Marisa Tomei and Steve Buscemi. Universal Pictures is set to release the film on June 19, 2020.
