'Jupiter's Legacy' First Look Teaser: Netflix Bets Big On Superheroes With Its New Series Debuting In May

Netflix began its superhero programming with the massively popular Marvel series such as “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” and “Luke Cage.” However, those series didn’t last, as Disney now has the rights back to those. Well, that isn’t stopping Netflix from keeping the superhero dream alive with its new series, “Jupiter’s Legacy,” which might very well be the streamer’s answer to “The Boys.”

To help begin the promotion for “Jupiter’s Legacy,” and to help show off its comic book roots, Netflix has released a new teaser for the upcoming show. In the teaser, not much is given about the content of the series outside of select pictures, but what is really shown is the origin of the series, as it’s based on a very popular recent comic book franchise about the first generation of superheroes that hands off the mantle of protector of the world to their children. Of course, the new generation isn’t necessarily the best fit, for various reasons.

“Jupiter’s Legacy” is based on the comic book series of the same name from creators Mark Millar and Frank Quitely (whose art is featured heavily in the teaser). Millar is probably someone you know based on other creations of his, such as “Wanted” and “The Kingsman.” So you can probably know the type of tone and story that you can expect with “Jupiter’s Legacy.” Needless to say, this is going to skew closer to “The Boys” than “The Avengers.”

The cast for the superhero epic includes Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade, Matt Lanter, Ian Quinlan, and Tyler Mane. The series is created by Steven S. DeKnight. The showrunner is probably best known for his work on the Starz franchise, “Spartacus,” as well as the first season of Marvel’s “Daredevil” series on Netflix. Again, if you want to guess what the tone of “Jupiter’s Legacy” might be, there you go.

“Jupiter’s Legacy” debuts on Netflix on May 7. You can watch the first look/teaser video below.
