Keifer Sutherland & Boyd Holbrook To Star In 'The Fugitive' Remake For Quibi Streaming Service

Of all the streaming platforms that have yet to debut, which include Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, and Peacock (ugh, that name), among others, there’s going to be a huge number of choices for folks looking for original content and are willing to spend a monthly fee to get it. However, despite those massive companies about the enter the streaming game, Quibi might be the most interesting platform that is soon to debut. And part of the reason for the intrigue is with projects like “The Fugitive.”

Yes, there’s another remake coming to a streaming platform. But unlike the recently announced “Saved by the Bell” or “Battlestar Galactica” reboots, “The Fugitive” is going to have some substantial changes to its structure and story that make the Quibi series potentially interesting. According to Variety, the streaming service has signed actors Keifer Sutherland and Boyd Holbrook to star in a new version of the classic film “The Fugitive.” However, this isn’t the same story that you’re probably expecting.

The new ‘Fugitive’ series follows a father (Holbrook) that finds himself on a Los Angeles subway during a bombing. Desperate to reconnect with his wife and child, who were also onboard the train, this man finds himself unwittingly at the center of the police investigation thanks to the social media campaign that seemingly points to him as the lead suspect. So, not only is this man worried about his family, but he’s also public enemy #1 and the subject of a manhunt led by a legendary investigator (Sutherland). So, yes, it’s similar to the Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford film, but different enough that it’s not egregious.

Another major difference is the Quibi of it all. You see, the streaming platform is very different than its competition, as the service is expected to cater to the mobile-viewing crowd by breaking up series into easily digestible 10-minute chunks that can be watched while on public transportation or the comfort of your couch. That means “The Fugitive” probably will be plenty action-packed to keep interest going throughout each chapter.

This new series is written and executive produced by Nick Santora, who is probably best known for his TV writing work on series such as “The Sopranos,” “Law & Order,” “Prison Break,” “Lie to Me,” and “Scorpion.”

No word on a release date yet for “The Fugitive,” but the project joins a long list of high-profile series and films coming to Quibi in 2020.
