Just recently, we did a deep dive into the year-end list from Steven Soderbergh, where he breaks down all the films, TV shows, books, and other media he consumed over 2021. And in that list, we saw his production schedule for his new film “KIMI,” which wrapped up before the summer. Well, it appears that the film is now headed to HBO Max sooner than we anticipated.
As seen in the new trailer for “KIMI,” the film follows a young woman, who is a voice recording analyst. Thanks to the fact that there are smart devices (run by an AI called KIMI), there’s a lot of regular conversations that are recorded in every home across the country. While analyzing some of those recordings, the young woman finds that someone might have been murdered and she goes on the journey to find out what really happened. As you might expect, this ruffles a few feathers. Think of “KIMI” as the “Rear Window” for the 21st Century, and a frightening look into the fact that we are almost always being recorded.
As mentioned, the film comes from writer-director Steven Soderbergh. The filmmaker once again is tackling the use of technology with his films, but instead of using interesting tech behind the scenes, the filmmaker is taking aim at the prevalence of AI devices and smart home devices all around us. The film stars Zoe Kravitz in the lead role, donning some very blue hair.
“KIMI” is expected to arrive on HBO Max on February 10. You can watch the new trailer below.
