'Knives Out 2' Begins Production In Greece Revealing Ethan Hawke As Part Of The Whodunnit

Despite being one of the three leads of Marvel Studios’ “Moon Knight,” which is supposed to be shooting in Budapest, Ethan Hawke has shown up in Greece on the set of “Knives Out 2.” The actor has apparently joined the growing cast of Rian Johnson‘s whodunit sequel, which just started shooting yesterday, as per Johnson’s announcement on Twitter as revealed by new set photos.

The Daily Mail has posted photos from the production in Greece that show cast members on a boat. They include Kate Hudson wearing a giant floppy hat, a flamboyantly dressed Dave Bautista, and sharp-dressed Ethan Hawke donning a slick suit with a ponytail.

The assumption here is that Ethan Hawke’s villain role in “Moon Knight” isn’t as large as many thought; he has a smaller role in “Knives Out 2,” or the actor has wrapped his participation in the Marvel series.

British actor Daniel Craig returns in the role of Southern detective Benoit Blanc and is set to reprise the role for the second sequel as part of their hefty deal with Netflix. Benoit Blanc seems to be on a new murder mystery in Greece, and given the bulk of the cast are Americans, it would suggest the group of characters known each other or may a connection.

The rest of the stellar cast of “Knives Out 2” consists of Edward Norton (“Fight Club,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Moonrise Kingdom“), Janelle Monae (“Moonlight,” “Hidden Figures“), Kathryn Hahn (“WandaVision“), Jessica Henwick (“The Matrix 4,” “Iron Fist” ), Kate Hudson (“Almost Famous“), Madelyn Cline, and Leslie Odom Jr. (“Murder On The Orient Express,” “One Night In Miami“).

It’ll be curious if we’ll see more mystery actors appear on the set in character and be confirmed that way instead of in various trade casting reports; that could be a lot of fun. Rian Johnson reunites with longtime cinematographer Steve Yedlin (“Looper,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Knives Out“) on the murder mystery sequel.

Netflix has yet to give “Knives Out 2” an official release date, but the filmmaker signed a major and lucrative deal with the streamer for at least two sequels back in April. Netflix was unavailable to comment on Hawke’s casting as of press time.
