'Les Olympiades' Trailer: Jacques Audiard Redefines Modern Love & Sex In Paris' 13th District

Having been a mainstay of the Croisette for years and a Palme d’Or winner in 2015 for “Dheepan,” French filmmaker Jacques Audiard (“The Beat That My Heart Skipped,” “A Prophet,” both Cannes prize winners), is no stranger to the Cannes Film Festival. Since 2005, all of his films have debuted at Cannes save one (2018’s “The Sisters Brothers” that went to Venice). Now he returns yet again with “Les Olympiades,” aka “Paris, 13th District,” a black and white film said to “redefine modern love” in the aforementioned Paris district.

It also stars three girls and a boy, and those players are Lucie Zhang, Makita Samba, Jehnny Beth, and Noémie Merlant from “Portrait Of A Lady On Fire.” This one was co-written by celebrated French filmmaker Céline Sciamma who directed “Portrait Of A Lady On Fire” and the most recent Berlin Festival picture “Petite Maman.” Here’s the very brief official synopsis:

IFC Films acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film earlier this year, with Curzon Artificial Eye acquiring the U.K. rights, so presumably, this means they’re eyeing a 2021 release, and maybe an Oscar run too. “Les Olympiades” will premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival over the next few days, so look out for our coverage and review.
