Comedy fans can look forward to the summer season, as the release date for “Long Shot” (formerly known as “Flarsky”), starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, has been moved to June 7, 2019. While the film looks to be in line with much of Rogen’s previous work, it will mark new territory for Theron.

Initially set for release on May 3, the film got moved to the summer season after guaranteeing a premiere at the SXSW Film Festival and after positive reception from audience screening tests. This shows ambition from the producers at Lionsgate, as it places the opening weekend for “Long Shot” one week after the opening for “Avengers: Endgame,” which, you know, could be big.

This film will be another collaboration between director Jonathan Levine and Rogen. Their previous history includes “50/50” and “The Night Before.” The film is based around a rowdy reporter (Rogen), an ambitious politician (Theron) and the antics that ensue as they try to keep their romance a secret from the public. Having had previous success in comedies like “Knocked Up,” this looks to be well within Rogen’s comfort zone, especially with his previous work with Levine.

The same can’t be said for Theron, who is better known for her parts in action films like “Mad Max: Fury Road” or crime dramas such as “Monster,” for which Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Having little experience in comedic roles, this may be an opportunity for Theron to show a different side of her acting abilities. Pairing Rogen’s lovable goofiness with Theron’s steely intensity should make for some interesting scenes. The question of whether or not this unlikely collaboration will result in comedic chemistry won’t be answered until the film’s summer release.
