'Low Tide' Trailer: 'It' Actor Jaeden Martell Stars In Another Coming-Of-Age Thriller Coming This Fall

Jaeden Martell is about to have a pretty great autumn. About a month after he returns as young Bill Denbrough—alongside his adult counterpart, James McAvoy— to do battle with Pennywise in “It: Chapter 2,” the young actor will star in a story that looks just as dark, albeit without the killer clowns.

A24 has released its first trailer for “Low Tide,” the directorial debut for Kevin McMullin which looks like equal parts modern noir, suburban western and character-driven drama. The synopsis for the film reads as follows:

In the long days of summer in a beach town on the New Jersey shore, high schooler Alan (Keean Johnson) and his friends Red (Alex Neustaedter) and Smitty (Daniel Zolghadri) break into vacation homes to steal valuables, funding dates at the boardwalk and lunches at the burger stand. When Alan and his younger brother Peter (Jaeden Martell) find a bag of gold coins, they try to hide them from the others — but Red, suspicious and violently unpredictable, seems willing to do anything to get the money.

The story may be much more grounded than “It,” but by the looks of this tense first look, I’d wager not everyone makes it out alive in this twisted coming-of-age story, either. At the very least, the film looks like a nice taste of small-scale original storytelling amid the onslaught that will be the start of the fall film season.

Along with Martell, “Low Tide” will also star Keean Johnson (“Alita: Battle Angel,” “Nashville”), Shea Whigham (“Take Shelter,” “American Hustle”) and Alex Neustaedter (“A-X-L,” “Colony”). “Low Tide” is set for a theatrical release in limited engagement on October 4, but will be available exclusively early on DirectTV starting September 5.
