While the lion’s share of the acclaim for Lisa Chodolenko‘s “The Kids Are All Right” went to the two leads, Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, the ensemble in general were terrific, with fine performances from Mia Wasikowska, Josh Hutcherson and Yaya DaCosta, and most notably, one of the best performances in years from Mark Ruffalo, who made his role with a shading, depth and likability that many actors might not have been able to pull off.
With the film likely to do well when Oscar nominations are announced next week, and having made an impressive box office haul, it isn’t a huge surprise to see that Ruffalo is set to reteam with a key contributor to its success — Stuart Blumberg, who co-wrote the script with Chodolenko. Baz Bamigboye reveals that Ruffalo is in talks to take one of the three male leads in a new script from Blumberg, “Thanks For Sharing,” which is set to mark the writer’s directorial debut.
The script apparently focuses on three sex addicts in a recovery clinic together — a subject matter that, outside of Clark Gregg‘s “Choke,” hasn’t really been covered, which seems odd considering the proclivities of some of the A-list… It also seems a perfect fit for Blumberg, whose previous writing credits also include the underrated teen comedy “The Girl Next Door,” and Edward Norton‘s directorial debut “Keeping the Faith.”
Details are still pretty thin at this point: there’s no news on where the project is set up, or of any other names that might join Ruffalo. Although with Blumberg seemingly having a close relationship with Edward Norton, having also produced his Obama doc “By The People,” and exec-producing “Leaves of Grass,” the actor could be a possible contender. Either way, Ruffalo’s going to be filming the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in “The Avengers” from April, so Blumberg has got plenty of time to fill out his cast. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on this project in the coming months.
