Marriage Story Dominates The 2019 Gotham Awards With Four Wins

The 2019 Gotham Awards were handed out on Monday night at Cipriani’s in New Your City and while Laura Dern, Sam Rockwell, Ava DuVernay and FilmNation CEO and producer Glen Basner were honored with lengthy tributes it was “Marriage Story” which was the big winner of the night.  Or maybe it was actually Netflix?

The Netflix production took Best Feature, Screenplay (Noah Baumbach), Best Actor (Adam Driver), and the Audience Award. “The Farewell’s” Awkwafina won Best Actress and Taylor Russell took Breathrough Actor for “Waves” while Laure De Clermont-Tonnerre was a massive surprise in the Breakthrough Director category.

Netflix’s “American Story” was the surprise winner in the Best Documentary category.

In the television categories, “Pen 15” won the shortform honor while “When They See Us” finally beat “Chernobyl” in the long form category.

Besides the Audience Award, the Gotham Awards are voted on by five member select committees.  That’s certainly a choice.
