'The Batman': Matt Reeves Gives Fans A Peek At Robert Pattinson's Batsuit In A Camera Test Video

Who needs a marketing department when you’re Matt Reeves? Since taking over the role of co-writer and director of “The Batman,” the filmmaker has taken it upon himself to announce just about every single casting on the film, as well as the beginning of production. But this evening, he one-upped himself, unveiling what appears to be our first look at Robert Pattinson in the Batman suit.

On Twitter, Reeves shared a video that he called a camera test that is very dark and very red, but shows what we can expect with the superhero costume that Pattinson will wear when he suits up as Batman in the upcoming film next summer.

And judging by the glimpse that we’re given in the minute-long video, it appears that Reeves is going for a more utilitarian look for the hero, focused on tactile armor and none of the rubber and/or spandex that dominated the previous suits worn by folks like Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Adam West, and Ben Affleck. If anything, the look is reminiscent of what Christian Bale wore in Christopher Nolan’sDark Knight’ trilogy, but with more of a bulky look.

Also, the video gives fans the first look at Pattinson in the cowl, and as we all expected (especially Willem Dafoe), the man’s jaw looks great. Very Batman-like, if that’s a thing. Honestly, there’s not much else we can glean from the video, except that Matt Reeves continues to be a one-man hype machine and WB seems to be taking a backseat on the promotion, for now.

Normally, when this sort of thing is released, it’s because set pictures and paparazzi pictures will likely begin leaking from the production of the film. This way, Reeves gives a good look at the suit, in the proper lighting and ambiance that he’s going for. Not in the overly bright, well-lit set pictures that will inevitably leak online.
