Matthew McConaughey Teaming With 'True Detective' Creator For New FX Series 'The Redeemer'

In this day and age, there are very few certainties in life. Of course, the biggest certainty is that death comes for us all. And that’s followed by the next biggest certainty we can all agree on— “True Detective” Season 1 is the best season of the three HBO has released thus far. Thanks to the combined efforts of writer-creator Nic Pizzolatto and an incredible performance from Matthew McConaughey, “True Detective” Season 1 is one of the best batches of episodes to be birthed from this era of Peak TV. And thankfully, the duo is collaborating once again.

According to Variety, Pizzolatto and McConaughey are producing a new series for FX, titled “Redeemer.” In addition to producing duties, Pizzolatto is writing the episodes and McConaughey, as you might expect, will star. The series is based on the novel “The Churchgoer,” from author Patrick Coleman. The story follows a minister that has become a security guard (McConaughey) that finds himself deep in a criminal conspiracy after he begins the search for a missing Texas woman.

“I’m very excited at the opportunity to work with Matthew again, and really grateful and thrilled to have the chance to create new shows for Fox 21 and FX,” Pizzolatto said.

Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment said, “We are thrilled to begin our creative partnership with Nic Pizzolatto and Matthew McConaughey on ‘Redeemer,’ who are back together for the first time since the first season of HBO’s ‘True Detective.’ We’re also incredibly excited about our overall deal with Nic and look forward to developing new projects with him and our partners Fox 21 Television Studios, and we’re equally excited to be developing projects with Matthew through his first look deal with FXP.”

“The Redeemer” is announced on the heels of a brand-new overall deal that Pizzolatto signed with Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. It’s also part of a new first-look deal between FX Productions and Matthew McConaughey. So, perhaps we’ll hear of some more series coming from the two men in the future.
