Minari And The Crown Rule 2021 SAG Awards Nominations

In perhaps the smartest cost-saving move for a major award show this year but the worst technically, the 2021 SAG Awards nominations were announced by actors Daveed Diggs and Lily Collins via the ceremony’s official Instagram page. After a delay for Diggs to find Collins in the actual Instagram Live stream, the nominees were finally unveiled. And, as expected, there were all sorts of surprises.

The nominees for Best Ensemble for a Motion Picture went to “Da 5 Bloods,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “One Night in Miami,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Minari.” A Best Picture bellwether, four of the five nominated ensembles were nominated last year. The winner, “Parasite,” took Best Picture.

Among the film nominees, “Minari” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” led all with three nominations each. On the television side, “Schitt’s Creek” and “The Crown” both landed five nods with “Ozark” close behind with four.

After “I May Destroy You” was completely snubbed by the Golden Globes, the actors recognized Michaela Coel in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series category.

Notable snubs included Amanda Seyfried for “Mank,” Delroy Lindo for “Da 5 Bloods” and Zendaya for either “Euphoria” or “Malcolm & Marie.”

The 27th SAG Awards will be handed out on Sunday, April 4.
