'Monopoly': Kevin Hart Teams With 'Ride Along' Director Tim Story To Bring Classic Board Game To Life

A little bit of controversy doesn’t seem to be derailing Kevin Hart’s career at all. After being hired, and then swiftly leaving the hosting gig for this year’s Oscars due to some old homophobic tweets resurfacing, the comedian has had a pretty stellar 2019, all things considered. His most recent film, “The Upside,” overcame mixed reviews to debut atop the box office and dethroning “Aquaman.” And most recently, he’s signed on to make a live-action film based on the most popular board game of all time.

According to Deadline, Hart has teamed up with director Tim Story to bring the world of Monopoly to life. There’s no plot to speak of, as of yet, but we’re going to go out on a limb and say it’ll involve someone trying to make money based on owning property. Perhaps Hart and Story are using “Monopoly” as a meta-commentary on the state of the world, with Donald Trump running things and capitalism/greedy tendencies of the American people running amok.

Who am I kidding? This is going to be yet another Kevin Hart film where he says things really loud, makes funny faces, and makes jokes about being short.

Hart and Story have previously collaborated on the two (and soon to be three) “Ride Along” films, which feature the comedian teaming up with rapper/actor Ice Cube as a hilariously dysfunctional police duo.

There’s no word yet on who will pen the script for “Monopoly” or when production might happen, but with these two men involved, you have to assume that the studio will want to get this going as soon as possible. If Hart’s box office track record (especially with Story behind the camera) is any indication, it would appear as if “Monopoly” is another sure-fire hit.
