'Morning': Benedict Cumberbatch, Laura Dern & Noah Jupe To Star In Justin Kurzel's New Sci-Fi Film

One glance at the recent filmography from director Justin Kurzel shows the filmmaker’s penchant for switching up genres with nearly every project. From “Macbeth” to “Assassin’s Creed” to “True History of the Kelly Gang” to last year’s “Nitram,” Kurzel is unafraid to change things up with each and every new feature. And that’s going to continue with his next, a sci-fi feature titled “Morning.”

Justin Kurzel has been announced as the director of the new sci-fi film, “Morning,” with a cast that is expected to include Laura Dern, Noah Jupe, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film is written by Sam Steiner and tells the story of a future society that has done away with the need for sleep with the help of a new pill. Not only has this society gotten rid of sleep, but they’ve also figured out a way to keep daylight 24/7, getting rid of the dreaded nighttime. But now a younger generation is upset and wants their ability to dream.

“‘Morning’ is a joyful, reflective, and defiant story about a reality not so far from our own where a preoccupation with productivity has destroyed our ability to connect, grieve and love,” said producer Adam Ackland. “We cannot wait to see this incredibly talented cast and creative team headed by Justin, Laura and Noah bring Sam’s brilliantly original script to life.”

Dern is one of the best actors working today, with recent films such as “Marriage Story,” “Little Women,” and this year’s “Jurassic World: Dominion.” Jupe is probably best known for his role in “A Quiet Place,” but he also starred in the acclaimed drama, “Honey Boy.” Cumberbatch…well, he’s Doctor Strange. But other than that, you probably can’t read one article about 2021 films without hearing about his amazing performance in “The Power of the Dog.”

So, with a cast led by those three and a filmmaker like Kurzel, who has proven that he is willing to go anywhere in service to a story, “Morning” is shaping up to be one of our most anticipated films of the next couple of years.
