Netflix Has "No Plans To Sell" & Is Ready To Survive The Upcoming Streaming Wars

While Halloween marks the time of year for children (and some adults) to dress up and go around town collecting candy, October 31 is actually an important day in the entertainment industry. At least it is in the eyes of every company hoping to strike it big in the streaming landscape. You see, Halloween marks the final day of the pre-Apple TV+ world and beginning of what is going to be a six-month stretch where almost every major Hollywood studio debuts their long-awaited streaming service. And all of them are taking aim at one company — Netflix.

But according to a recent panel (via Deadline), Netflix isn’t scared. In fact, Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos is optimistic that the streaming service is here for the long haul. Why the optimism? Well, the executive says that Netflix has been “competing since Day One” and has one major advantage over companies like Apple and Disney.

“We have one product,” Sarandos said. “We make great television and films for our customers …and we have to keep doing that.”

He added, “We’re about change and keeping things fresh.”

One thing that won’t change, however, is the ownership. In the era where bigger companies regularly eat up smaller ones, especially in light of Disney taking over Fox, Sarandos assured everyone (including his investors) that Netflix is not for sale.

“We have no plans to sell,” said the Netflix executive, adding that he has “never discussed selling the company” with the CEO, Reed Hastings.

With massive companies such as Apple and Disney entering the fray, it isn’t unbelievable to think that someone might be interested in taking a shortcut to becoming an immediate streaming powerhouse. And in the case of Apple, the tech company is in desperate need of a library of content and has the cash hidden in its couch cushions to buy Netflix. But, at least for now, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

So, in the weeks to come, with Apple TV+ and Disney+, we’ll finally see just how the next phase of the Streaming Wars pan out.
