'The Nevers' Teaser: Joss Whedon's Epic Sci-Fi, Victorian Women Heroines Series Debuts On HBO In April

HBO’s latest high-profile series that the network is hoping will become a massive hit is “The Nevers.” And the biggest reason why HBO has high hopes for this show is the fact that it was created and produced by Joss Whedon. But outside of that, not much has been known about the series, until now.

Thanks to a new teaser for “The Nevers,” HBO is showing the Victorian-era supernatural show might actually be a pseudo-superhero show in a frilly disguise. The series tells the story of a group of people, dubbed “Touched” people, that have supernatural abilities and band together to fight evil.

The ensemble cast also includes Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson, Amy Manson, Pip Torrens, Denis O’Hare, Zackary Momoh, Elizabeth Berrington, Kiran Sawar, Anna Devlin, Viola Prettejohn, Ella Smith, Nick Frost, and Ben Chaplin.

While the cast is talented, all eyes are on “The Nevers” because of Joss Whedon’s involvement. The filmmaker is the creator and producer on the series, and he was set to be the showrunner as well. However, according to Whedon, he had to step away for personal reasons. Of course, the drama surrounding Whedon and his “Justice League” actor Ray Fisher might also have played a role. Either way, Whedon got the ball rolling on “The Nevers” but has seemingly taken a back seat.

“The Nevers” is set to debut on HBO (and thus, HBO Max) in April. You can see the teaser below.

Here’s the official synopsis:

HBO’s new drama series THE NEVERS will debut this April with six-episodes on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the “Touched”: people – mostly women – who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities – some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of… well, pretty much all the forces – to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.
