In an interview with Jam Nation, Nicole Kidman is asked the million-dollar question—well, a question that has been asked multiple times before but previously, hasn’t given us much info. Except for this time, the actress not only confirmed that the cast is interested in a third season of “Big Little Lies,” but that they’re actually working on the story right now.

“There’s a story being concocted,” said Kidman. “[‘Big Little Lies’ author] Liane Moriarty is working on a book. Our group of women all want to do it. It’s more the kernel of ideas that just need to be solidified.

This is huge news for folks excited about the idea of “Big Little Lies” coming back once again. Of course, the series was only ever supposed to be a single season, but the Emmy-winning series was so popular with critics and viewers that HBO paid a huge amount of money to bring the cast back for another batch of episodes. Those episodes continued to be a big hit and a third season seemed like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the fact that the author, along with series creator David E. Kelley, didn’t have a new story to work with, combined with the cost of bringing the cast back together, a Season 3 seemed like an impossibility. Well, maybe not.

Does this mean “Big Little Lies” is guaranteed a Season 3? Of course not. Even if a story is great and everyone is excited to do it, HBO could be worried about the budget, as you can’t bring Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley together without forking over some cash. But the ball is rolling. So, we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, you’re likely not going to see Andrea Arnold return to direct.
