'Peacemaker' Renewed For Season 2 As HBO Max Executive Teases New James Gunn DC TV Show

UPDATE: HBO Max has officially announced Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” so it is now confirmed. The original post follows…

As “Peacemaker” wraps up its first season on HBO Max, it seems like only a matter of time before we get official word about Season 2. James Gunn, even before the series began airing, hinted that he would like to do more episodes. And his most recent comments seem to basically confirm it’s all but a done deal. But now, we have the head of HBO/HBO Max echoing that sentiment, almost assuring Season 2 is happening.

Speaking to Deadline, HBO/HBO Max executive Casey Bloys teased that Season 2 of “Peacemaker” is likely going to happen, though he did stop short of actually confirming the news outright.

“I’m feeling good so stay tuned. The show has been doing great,” Bloys said. “Looking good.”

When you have an executive saying something like that, you have to assume “Peacemaker” is coming back for more episodes. Though, you have to assume the hesitance has to do with the fact that James Gunn is currently deep into filming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and star John Cena is always working on a million different things at once. So, even if we get Season 2, there’s going to have to be some schedule juggling to bring everyone back.

But that’s not all the DC goodness that Bloys was willing to tease. Along with Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” Gunn has hinted that he’s working on yet another DC TV series for HBO Max that would once again be a spinoff from his film, “The Suicide Squad.” At the time, he didn’t talk too much about what that might look like, and it appears Bloys is also hoping to keep it a bit of a mystery until Gunn is ready to spill the beans.

“I don’t want to take anything away from James,” Bloys teased. “I think he has been such a terrific partner on the show so I will let him talk about any plans he wants to share.”

With “Peacemaker” doing great numbers for HBO Max, it’s clear the studio wants to keep Gunn around as long as the filmmaker has more stories to tell. We’ll just have to wait a bit longer to know exactly what those stories are.
