Despite what you might think of Woody Allen‘s later works, most can agree that “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” stood head and shoulders above the rest. Beautifully shot by Javier Aguirresarobe, and a charming romantic tale all around, the film featured fine performances by everyone involved but none more so than by Penélope Cruz who took home an Oscar for her work. And she’s ready to work for the filmmaker once again.
Speaking with EW, Cruz confirmed her involvement in his next film, recently reported to be set in Rome, but remained cagey on any further details. “I know [what I’m doing next], but the thing is that I have to ask the director what I can say and what I cannot say,” she said. “Because he’s very secretive. It’s…it’s a movie with Woody Allen. But I really cannot say anything about the story or the characters.”
Well, that’s pretty much par for the course with Allen, who likes to keep a lid on things during production of his movies. The director himself is also set to make an appearance in the film, though he called it a “small role.” Production on the film is set to begin this summer, so more casting is around the corner.
Next up from Allen, of course, is “Midnight In Paris” which will kick off the Cannes Film Festival on May 11th before hitting theaters on May 20th.
