'The Plot Against America' Trailer: An Alternate Look At American History From The Creator Of 'The Wire'

What would America have become if FDR never won the presidency? Well, that’s a question that HBO’s upcoming series, “The Plot Against America” attempts to answer. Based on the Phillip Roth novel of the same name, the new HBO six-part miniseries tells the story of an alternate version of American history — one where the xenophobic populist Charles Lindbergh becomes president and guides America towards fascism. “The Plot Against America” is told from the perspective of a working-class Jewish-American family.

Winona Ryder leads the cast as Evelyn Finkel, a woman who becomes increasingly intoxicated by the attention of Rabbi Lionel Bengelsdorf, a key Lindbergh supporter played by John Tuturro. Bengelsdorf plays a vital role in Lindbergh’s administration, despite the growing opposition within the Jewish community. Rounding out the cast is Zoe Kazan, who plays Evelyn’s younger sister Bess Levin. Unlike Evelyn, Bess fears for the future and plans a possible escape route for her family.

“The Plot Against America,” comes from David Simon and Ed Burns, better known as the people behind HBO’s “The Wire.” Given that show’s massive critical acclaim and legacy, this miniseries appears to be in good hands. The duo will serve as both writers and executive producers on the miniseries.
