Back in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Walter Hill was everywhere. The writer-director-producer has his name attached to a ton of classics, including “The Warriors,” “48 Hrs.,” and “Aliens.” But in recent years, the aging filmmaker hasn’t been nearly as prolific, only releasing a handful of films and TV episodes since 2000. But the 79-year-old filmmaker has a new film lined up, “Dead for a Dollar,” and judging by the cast, this could be the biggest Walter Hill production in decades.
Quiver Distribution just announced Rachel Brosnahan is the latest actor to join “Dead for a Dollar,” the new film written and directed by Hill. The Western has already snagged Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe in lead roles. The film tells the story of a bounty hunter and an outlaw that cross paths while on a mission to return a woman to her husband. Brosnahan is probably best known for her work in the lead role of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” the award-winning Amazon comedy series.
“We are thrilled to be working with Rachel and this best-in-class cast,” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman. “As a rapidly growing company in an ever-changing industry, we are always eager to expand our horizons as we venture more into finance and production.”
“Dead for a Dollar” doesn’t yet have a release date, but with production expected to begin soon, it’s likely we’ll see the film in 2022.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
Dead for a Dollar follows a famed bounty hunter (Waltz) who runs into his sworn enemy, a professional gambler and outlaw that he had sent to prison years before (Dafoe), while on a mission to find and return the wife (Brosnahan) of a successful businessman who is being held hostage in Mexico.
