Being a single mother is tough work. But what if you’re a single mother of a young boy that starts to exhibit superpowers? That’s just something that most people probably wouldn’t be able to handle. However, for the character of Nicole, in the new Netflix series “Raising Dion,” she is willing to do anything to protect her son.
As seen in the first trailer for the series, “Raising Dion” follows the story of Nicole and Dion, a mother and her young son, who find themselves in the crosshairs of the government after the young boy begins to show that he has supernatural abilities. Adding more intrigue to the story is the fact that Dion’s father mysteriously died years prior in some freak “storm.”
The new series is produced by Michael B. Jordan, who also has a small role (as seen in the trailer). “Raising Dion” also stars Alisha Wainwright, Ja’Siah Young, and Jason Ritter. The new sci-fi series is based on the short film of the same name from filmmaker Dennis Liu. Carol Barbee, the woman who has written and produced shows such as “Jericho,” “Falling Skies,” and “Touch,” is on board as showrunner.
“Raising Dion” arrives on Netflix on October 4.
Here’s the synopsis:
Raising Dion follows the story of a woman named Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.
