Renée Zellweger To Star In NBC Limited Series, 'The Thing About Pam,' Produced By Blumhouse

In 2019, Renée Zellweger had a busy year, with an acclaimed role in the film, “Judy.” She was also the lead in a Netflix drama series titled, “What/If,” marking her first real main role in a TV series. Well, it appears she enjoyed her time on the small screen, as she’s teaming up with Blumhouse and NBC for a new series.

According to Deadline, Zellweger is set to star in and produce a new limited series titled “The Thing About Pam,” which is set to debut on NBC. The series, which Blumhouse TV produced, tells the stranger-than-fiction, real-life story about the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria. The case made for a popular episode of “Dateline NBC” will now be adapted into this prestige drama.

“When you think about what qualifies something like a ‘must-watch,’ I’m not sure you could do any better than the undeniable trifecta of Renée Zellweger, Blumhouse, and Dateline,” NBC executive Susan Rovner said. “The twists and turns of this saga are truly stranger than fiction, and in the hands of this incredibly talented artistic team, this series will bring a completely new perspective to a story that has already captivated millions.”

Jason Blum, the founder of Blumhouse, added, “Similar to our acclaimed and award-winning crime series such as ‘The Jinx’ and ‘Sharp Objects,’ we see this opportunity to fuel viewers’ appetites for strong and compelling stories. This opportunity to build a powerful, scripted franchise and work with the incomparable Renée Zellweger in her first starring role on broadcast TV, with a writer as gifted as Jessika Borsiczky and adapting material from the treasure troves of Dateline in partnership with our friends at NBC, is unparalleled. I couldn’t be more proud of the Blumhouse team for bringing it to fruition.”

As mentioned, Zellweger made her debut as a leading lady on the small screen in 2019’s “What/If.” But prior to that, she has appeared in small roles in the occasional series. She’s mainly known for her film achievements, having won two Oscars, for the aforementioned “Judy” and before that, “Cold Mountain.”

It’s unclear when “The Thing About Pam” will arrive on NBC, but this is a huge series for the network and is clearly a way to help compete against the streaming services that live and breath true-crime content.
