Hollywood is all about shared, expanding universes right now. If you want a promotion, just be sure to package something that involves sequels, spinoffs, and stories told in continuing chapters, and you’ll be sure to please executives looking to produce movies that make the kind of money to keep them employed. With that in mind, this next rumor is a bit interesting.
Former Latino Review reporter Umberto Gonzalez is hearing that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be "the end of the Bryan Singer X-Men universe." Now, there’s a couple of ways that could be interpreted. Does that mean it’s the end of Singer’s fifteen-year involvement with the series that started in 2000? That would make a lot of sense. Does that mean Fox will reboot everything following ‘Apocalypse’? That’s the bigger question.
"The Wolverine 3" in 2017 will be Hugh Jackman‘s last time as Logan — if his cry wolf antics are actually for real this time — which would mean a major actor exiting the franchise. That said, with starry new-breed cast members like Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, coupled with chatter of the studio’s desire for spinoff movies, I really wonder if Fox is going to let that kind of talent go. At least not without a fight. And starting over when Marvel is deep into their cinematic universe, and with Warner Bros. kicking off theirs next year, it might be a miscalculation.
Anyway, something to think about and speculate on. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
