'Running Wild': John Hillcoat To Direct The Upcoming Crime Thriller

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a narrative feature from director John Hillcoat. His most recent, in fact, is the 2016 thriller, “Triple 9.” But it appears the filmmaker, who is probably best known for his adaptation of “The Road,” is set to work on a new film, “Running Wild.”

According to Deadline, Hillcoat is set to direct “Running Wild,” which is based on the novella by J.G. Ballard. The film tells the story of a terrible mass murder in the outskirts of Los Angeles, which results in a group of highly successful professionals killed and their children all abducted. But the real mystery begins when the investigation unearths clues that lead to what could be seen as a cult-like community. The script for the adaptation is written by David Leland.

As mentioned, it’s been a while since Hillcoat has released a narrative feature. His most recent film is the 2021 documentary that he co-directed titled “Bob Dylan: Odds and Ends.” Previous to that, there was “Triple 9,” “Lawless,” “The Road,” and his breakout film, “The Proposition.”

Obviously, it’s a bit too early to know when we might see “Running Wild” arrive. However, with Hillcoat involved, it’s clear this is a feature to keep your eye on, especially as we await word on which actors will sign up to star in the film. Hillcoat has no problem attracting big names and has previously worked with folks such as Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Viggo Mortensen, and many, many more.
