Ryan Gosling has been surprisingly missing from the big screen since 2018’s “First Man.” However, that doesn’t mean that actor hasn’t been busy. He’s already signed on to star as the title character in the upcoming Blumhouse horror remake, “The Wolfman.” He’s apparently going to star in another space film, this time with Lord & Miller behind the camera. Oh yeah, and don’t forget the massive $200 million franchise-starting action film, “The Gray Man,” directed by the Russo Brothers. Clearly, he has a busy schedule. So, why not add another major film to that slate?
According to Deadline, that’s exactly what Gosling is doing, as the actor has apparently signed on to star in a new, untitled drama about a stuntman, which will be directed by David Leitch. The film, which is written by Drew Pearce, is said to be in development at Universal and is expected to begin production soon. Details are scarce, but the interesting thing is that Leitch, who has recently risen to fame thanks to his work on “John Wick” and helming films such as “Atomic Blonde,” “Deadpool 2,” and last year’s “Hobbs & Shaw,” is a former stuntman. So, you can imagine he has a personal affinity for this feature.
As mentioned, Gosling’s most recent project was 2018’s “First Man,” which saw the actor once again team with Damien Chazelle and get included heavily in the awards discussion. Now, it appears that with the new stuntman feature, as well as his other assortment of projects, Gosling is looking to really tackle blockbuster filmmaking. And considering his previous output, we’re excited to see what the actor can bring to the congested world of action films.
Leitch is a great filmmaker for this feature, obviously. Not only because of his own personal history with the subject matter but also because he’s one of the most adept action filmmakers working today. In only a short time, he’s already catapulted to the top of the blockbuster filmmaking genre and looks to keep his status firmly in place thanks to this new film and the upcoming Brad Pitt-starring film, “Bullet Train.”
It’s unclear when the Gosling-led film will arrive in theaters, but this is definitely one we will keep a close eye on.
