Sequels For 'Assassin’s Creed' & 'Splinter Cell' Already Being Eyed

Assassin's CreedIt’s the kind of news that’s perhaps a bit obvious, but in case you don’t know much about the world of blockbuster filmmaking, the money behind two upcoming videogame adaptations — “Assassin’s Creed” starring Michael Fassbender and “Splinter Cell” starring Tom Hardy — are already thinking about sequels.

“They are both adaptations of successful Ubisoft games and would make ideal sequels,” Daphne Yang, CEO of Catchplay, the Taiwanese co-financier of both movies, told Variety.

Again, you don’t make these kinds of movies without thinking of doing more than one. At the moment, “Assassin’s Creed” is in post-production with director Justin Kurzel getting the movie ready to be released on December 21st, while last we heard about “Splinter Cell,” the filmmakers were still trying to get a script sorted out. Either way, there are big plans for both movies, which is how things go, particularly when the budget for “Assassin’s Creed” is reportedly hovering around the $200 million mark.

But as always, let’s hope everyone involved isn’t putting the cart in front of the horse, and getting these projects right out of the gate before dreaming of sequels and more.
