It’s been great to see Warner Bros. and DC Films expand their superhero tent to include the first Latino-led DCEU feature film with Angel Manuel Soto’s “Blue Beetle.” Blue Beetle is a quirky comic book character that fans have long desired for a live-action adaptation. The solo film was originally being developed as a streaming project at HBO Max, but it will be getting a theatrical release next August.
Deadline reports that veteran actress Sharon Stone is in talks with the studio to play the role of new villain Victoria Kord after previously playing a baddie in the infamous “Catwoman” movie starring Halle Berry. Kord is said to be the wife of DC Comics industrialist Ted Kord, who was the original Blue Beetle in the comics, so keep a lookout for his casting too.

Stone’s other genre credits include “Casino,” “Total Recall,” “Basic Instinct,” and the hit HBO Max original series, “The Flight Attendant.”
As filming is expected to begin soon, Stone joins a growing cast that includes Xolo Maridueña as the titular hero, George Lopez, Adrianna Barraza, Harvey Guillén, Bruna Marquezine, Damián Alcázar, Belissa Escobedo, and Elpidia Carrillo.
The studio is coming off the massive box office hit “The Batman” and is primed to pit “Shazam! Fury of The Gods” against “Avatar 2” in December. They’re currently filming “Batgirl” in the United Kingdom, which will see Michael Keaton reprise the Bruce Wayne/Batman role with actress Leslie Grace playing the newest incarnation of Barbara Gordon.
It’ll be fun to see how Maridueña and Blue Beetle fit in the cinematic universe, along with the potential for future crossovers with other DC heroes.
“Blue Beetle” will be heading to theaters on August 18th, 2023.
