'Sherlock Holmes' Not Up To Hollywood Snuff? Guy Ritchie's Summer Tentpole Ordered Back For Five Weeks Of Reshoots?

Update: Warner Bros. via The Hollywood Reporter, flat out denies that any of this is true.

Drama alert! Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” has been sent back to the kitchen by Warner Bros.? Apparently the studio has seen a cut of the film, did not particularly love what they saw and ordered Ritchie to go back for five more weeks of shooting.

Sounds bad, right? However, the report comes from the specious British press and the tabloid-y U.K. Sun so one should take it with a grain of salt, yes?

The one thing that does sound believable: Ritchie shot ‘Holmes’ during his divorce to Madonna which is true and couldn’t have been easy any way you want to splice it. “It’s disastrous news, but Guy has promised to fix it,” a source told the Sun that also noted that the director was “distracted” during shooting. One scene was allegedly called, “ridiculously unrealistic.”

One must assume if it’s total B.S. and there’s no reshoots, Warners will issue some sort of comment or simply dismiss once a writer asks. However, if reshoots are in order, expect a damage control statement. “Sherlock Holmes” stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams and is currently scheduled for a November 20 release. According to the Sun, a “string of nasty accidents” befell the cast and crew during shooting last November and the crew joked that a “curse” had befallen the production.
