'She's Gotta Have It' Season 2 Teaser: Spike Lee's Netflix Series Returns In May

Spike Lee might have made headlines with his latest film “BlacKkKlansman,” which would eventually earn the filmmaker his first Oscar win. However, just over a year ago saw the release of the Netflix original series “She’s Gotta Have It,” which is based on the famous Lee film of the same name, and might just be the best Lee project of the last couple of years. And perhaps the goodwill that Lee has earned thanks to his Oscar win will carry over as the Netflix series enters its second season later this year.

In a short announcement video, Netflix confirmed that “She’s Gotta Have It” is coming back, and will launch on the streaming service in May. For those that aren’t familiar with the film, or the new TV adaptation, the series follows the character Nola Darling and her adventures in a gentrified Brooklyn, as she juggles relationships and her blossoming art career.

“She’s Gotta Have It” stars DeWanda Wise, Anthony Ramos, Ilfenesh Hadera, Cleo Anthony, Lyriq Bent, Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne, and Fat Joe.

The second season debuts on Netflix on May 24.

Here’s the synopsis for Season 2:

A seriously sexy comedy and rousing celebration of female empowerment, She’s Gotta Have It Season 2 offers a timely and topical portrait of rising talents, with free-spirited artist Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise) at the center. Struggling with newfound success this season, against a backdrop of black art and culture, Nola must decide if she will remain true to her creative ideals or give in to the corporate world. Her journey of self-discovery helps transform the lives of those around her, including friend and sometimes lover Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos), who sets out to pursue his true passion of music as well as her inner circle of Opal (Ilfenesh Hadera), Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony), Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent), Clorinda Bradford (Margot Bingham), Shemekka Epps (Chyna Layne) and Winnie Win (Fat Joe). Their journey expands to new destinations this season beyond their home base of Fort Greene, the vibrant Brooklyn enclave, that continues to evolve and change as gentrification remakes the neighborhood.
