Sigourney Weaver Says She's In The New 'Ghostbusters' Film & Seemingly Confirms Dan Aykroyd & Bill Murray Will Return Also

The mystery surrounding the upcoming “Ghostbusters” rebootquel seems to be fading away as the weeks go by. We’re just over a year away from the film’s debut next summer, and we already know the primary cast and have plenty of hints about the plot. And now, thanks to a “Ghostbusters” legend, we know that some of your favorite actors from the 1984 film will be making their return.

Speaking to Parade, Sigourney Weaver talked about what is next on her busy slate. Of course, she is finishing up work on the upcoming sequel to “Avatar,” but she also drops the bombshell that she’ll be joining some familiar faces in the upcoming “Ghostbusters 3.”

“It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” she said.

“The guys” in question are seemingly Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, who have yet to be confirmed for the film, but as Weaver (and the report) insinuates, it’s a done deal.

The actress doesn’t explain what her reason for being in the film might be (other than the obvious nostalgia of it all), but does say that she’ll reprise her role from the 1984 classic, playing Dana Barrett. Of course, if you’ve seen the first film, you know how Barrett factors into the story, as she is the driving force of the plot, becoming possessed and requiring the Ghostbusters to save her.

This news isn’t completely shocking, as it was widely assumed that many of the original film’s cast would be back for the upcoming sequel. Just earlier this week, the sequel’s director, Jason Reitman, posted a mysterious message on Twitter about a “surprise” he had in store for fans at this weekend’s Ghostbusters Fan Fest. It’s been speculated that the surprise would indeed be the announcement of which actors from the first film would be back.

If that’s the case, sorry Mr. Reitman, you were beaten to the punch. But hey, maybe he has something else in store for fans? We shall find out.

“Ghostbusters 3,” or whatever it’ll be called, is expected to arrive in theaters July 10, 2020.
