Sony's 'Uncharted' Loses Another Director As Tom Holland-Led Film Inches Closer To Production

Tom Holland is having a bit of a rough week, huh? After everyone went crazy with the news that Sony and Disney ended their production deal on the ‘Spider-Man’ film franchise, the latest news sees another Holland project hit a bit of a rough patch, as the director of the long-in-development “Uncharted” film departs.

According to Deadline, Dan Trachtenberg has left the production on “Uncharted,” leaving Sony to rush to find a replacement, so that the film doesn’t get delayed once again. The film, based on the popular video game of the same name, finds Tom Holland playing the role of Nathan Drake, an Indiana Jones-esque adventurer. Sony is said to be looking for a new director immediately so that pre-production can continue, with filming scheduled for early 2020.

Trachtenberg is probably best known as the director of the thriller “10 Cloverfield Lane.” But recently, he’s been the filmmaker behind an episode of “Black Mirror,” as well as the pilot for the Amazon hit superhero series “The Boys.” No reason was given as to why Trachtenberg left the project.

The “Uncharted” film adaptation has been in the works for almost a decade, with directors coming and going every year or so. Names like David O Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, and Shawn Levy have all been attached to helm the film, with the latter leaving the project last December. It appeared that Trachtenberg was going to be the guy to bring the film over the finish line, but now, with production right around the corner, Sony has to rush to find his replacement.

No official release date has been announced by Sony, but with a 2020 production time frame, it would appear that 2021 is when fans will get to see Tom Holland’s latest attempt to start a franchise.
