“Space Force” is set to take off again as a second season hits Netflix. The comedy from creators Greg Daniels and Steve Carell offers a satirical look at America’s newest military branch. It also serves as a return to form for the pair who helped make the U.S. remake of “The Office” a success. Much like that modern classic, the series utilizes dry humor and satire to achieve its laughs.
The new season sees General Naird (Carell) tasked with keeping his team together as a new president challenges everything. He’s also finding personal connections put to the test as the program continues its push for interstellar dominance. For Carell, there are plenty of stories left for his character. “I always want to look for some new opportunities for him — and the odder and more surreal, the better to see how he might deal with some of the stresses and strains of his job,” the actor told EW.
In addition to Carell, the cast is packed with proven performers. John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, Jimmy O. Yang, and Don Lake all come back in their respective roles. Schwartz became a standout of the first season as social media director Tony. It’s a role that marks a comedic departure from his well-known “Parks and Recreation” character Jean-Ralphio Saperstein.
The series’ official synopsis:
Season 2 of Space Force picks up with General Naird and his underdog team having to prove their worth to a new administration while dealing with interpersonal challenges. Will the group come together or fall apart under the pressure…? Space Force is only human, after all.
