'Stranger Things' Season 4: New Teaser Promises A Wintry Russia & The Return Of Hopper

Still with “Stranger Things,” Netflix‘s science fiction, supernatural coming of age series that’s part “Goonies,” part “Ghostbusters” and seemingly a nostalgic mishmash of all of these kinds of pop culture classics from the 1980s? Some of us have tired of its incessant ’80s homage-ing, but the show is still going strong on Netflix and presumably has no plans of stopping even though it feels like it’s treading the same water narratively.

But you didn’t think the series, created by writer/directors Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer would actually kill him, right? Cause yeah, mild spoiler he’s back, he’s shown in the new teaser trailer announcing the start of production and the Duffer brothers have confirmed it’s him too and not some doppelganger or whatever.

The Duffer Brothers write:

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a  new horror is beginning to surface, something long-buried, something that connects everything….

Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.” From

While the from “Russia with love” tag is obviously referencing James Bond, it sounds like the Duffer brothers are using today’s political climate to harken back to the cold war hostilities between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., and trying to leverage that thematically.

“Stranger Things” stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, Paul Reiser, Maya Hawke, and Priah Ferguson. No word when “Stranger Things” season 4 hits, but presumably sometime later in 2020, possibly the summer if they can finish that fast. Watch the new teaser below.
