'Stranger Things' Season 3 Trailer: A 1980s Summer Is Disrupted By Epic Danger Again

Featuring posters that look like they’re out of Activision video games or John Carpenter’s “Big Trouble In Little China,” Netflix’s “Stranger Things” appears to be leaving heavily into its ‘80s vibes in the upcoming third season which is right around the corner.

Now set in 1985, in the summer and seemingly tapping into that summer 80s teen movie aesthetic and vibe—sunny, colorful images and neon imagery—romance is a bigger part of the new upcoming season of the Duffer brothers show, now arguably Netflix’s flagship show that now “House Of Cards” is gone. “Stranger Things” has become streaming giants’ “Game Of Thrones” at this point really, and one has to wonder how long it can go on given that these kids are no longer children and growing up by the minute.

It’s been rumored in the past that the Duffer brothers had thought to shoot multiple seasons at once, but so far, that’s never been the case. But how long can we suspend the audience disbelief that a town endures all these crazy horrors every few years, but then suddenly everything goes back to normal, albeit, only ever so briefly it seems. No one in the town appears to question much and just goes on with their lives. Big emoji shrug, I guess. Here’s the official synopsis for season three.

It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.
