'Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney To Star In New Movie About Whistleblower Reality Winner

She may only be 24, but Sydney Sweeney‘s fast becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. And her swift ascendence is thanks to just how well-regarded some of the projects she’s starred in are. “Euphoria,” “The White Lotus,” and “Sharp Objects” are three of HBO‘s most critically acclaimed shows of the last few years. More minor roles in the likes of Hulu‘s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” help, too.

And now, next to her role alongside Dakota Johnson in Sony‘s Spider-Man spin-off “Madame Web,” Sweeney adds another big project to her list of upcoming films. Deadline reports that Sweeney will lead Tina Satter‘s feature film debut about whistleblower Reality Winner. Winner is a former American intelligence specialist who leaked a report about Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. As a result, Winner went to federal prison for five years and three months, the longest sentence ever for the unauthorized release of government information to the media.

Satler takes inspiration for the new film from her critically acclaimed play “Is This A Room.” There’s no word if the film will have the same title as the play, but it may be a safe bet considering its successful run on Broadway last fall. Satter adapts her play for the big screen with James Paul Dallas. “A Journal For Jordan” star Marchánt Davis and Josh Hamilton from “The Walking Dead” also have roles in the upcoming film.

So, alongside whomever she plays in “Madame Web” and her role in Tony Tost‘s upcoming actioner “National Anthem,” Sydney Sweeney begins her case as Hollywood’s next leading lady. Of course, “Madame Web” is still a huge mystery on all fronts, so maybe Sweeney’s role isn’t a starring one there. But it’s clear from this casting decision that the actress is ready to take on some star-making parts.
