'Ted Lasso' Star Brett Goldstein Confirms Plan To End Series After Season 3

Typically, when it comes to American TV, if a series is really popular, then a network will keep renewing it and renewing it, eventually leading to a drop in quality and fans being upset. Well, it doesn’t appear that’s going to be the case with “Ted Lasso.”

Speaking to The Times recently, “Ted Lasso” star, co-creator, and writer Brett Goldstein confirmed that the plan for the show is to still end it after its upcoming third season. This has been the plan for a while now, and though it seems crazy for Apple TV+ to take its most popular show and end it right at the height of its power, it appears the creative forces behind the scenes are still sticking to the plan.

“We are writing it like that. It was planned as three. Spoiler alert — everyone dies,” said Goldstein.

Obviously, he’s joking about the “everyone dies” part. That wouldn’t be very “Ted Lasso” for the show to kill off everyone.

As mentioned, “Ted Lasso” is easily the most popular show on Apple TV+ and has been an awards season powerhouse for the streaming service. It’ll be interesting to see if the service will allow the creators to end the show as planned, or if there will be pressure to eek out a couple of more seasons? Remember, the series is set in the UK, but this is America and we love to run our shows into the ground. Just look at “The Walking Dead,” for example.

That said, with streaming services, we are seeing studios stick to their guns with shorter runs for popular series. Hell, over on Netflix, you’re lucky to get three seasons of any series. So, maybe fans of “Ted Lasso” shouldn’t be bummed that the series is likely coming to an end soon, and instead, they should be excited that the show is able to tell its complete story as was originally intended.

A release date for Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” has yet to be announced.
