'The Girl Before' Trailer: Gugu Mbatha-Raw & David Oyelowo Star In A HBO Max Limited Series Thriller

Do you like suspenseful thrillers about controlling psycho assholes who act as voyeurs on their prey? Well, “The Girl Before” from HBO Max might be for you. A gripping adaptation of JP Delaney’s best-selling novel, the series stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Loki,” “The Morning Show”), David Oyelowo (“Selma,” “Les Misérables”), Jessica Plummer (“EastEnders” and “How To Talk To Girls At Parties”) and Ben Hardy (“Bohemian Rhapsody” and “X-Men: Apocalypse”).

But what’s it about exactly? Well, a woman (Mbatha-Raw) who falls in love with an extraordinary minimalist house designed by an eccentric architect (Oyelowo) who apparently likes to keep tabs on it. But when she discovers that another damaged woman died in the same property three years earlier, she starts to wonder if her own story is just a rerun of the girl before. Here’s the official synopsis:

THE GIRL BEFORE tells the story of Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who gets the chance to move into a beautiful, ultra-minimalist house designed by an enigmatic architect (David Oyelowo). There’s just one catch: the occupants must abide by his list of exacting rules. Jane starts to feel the house changing her in unexpected ways, but when she makes the shocking discovery about her predecessor, Emma (Jessica Plummer), she’s forced to confront unnerving similarities. As the two women’s timelines interweave, Jane begins to question if her fate will be the same as the girl before…

“The Girl Before” is written and executive produced by JP Delaney with Marissa Lestrade (“White Stork,” “Deep State 2”) co-writing episodes. Emmy-nominated Lisa Brühlmann (“Killing Eve,” “Servant,” “Blue My Mind”) directs and serves as an executive producer. Additional executive producers include Eleanor Moran, Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh for 42, and Ben Irving for the BBC. Rhonda Smith produces, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw is an associate producer.
