It can be argued that Seth MacFarlane is one of the most multifaceted talents working in the entertainment industry today. “Family Guy” alone is the type of hit that anyone can make an entire career on. Of course, MacFarlane has not stopped there. His success ranges from one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time in “Ted,” his own music career of crooning and Christmas songs, and the capacity to not only write and direct but star in most of the projects he helms. One of MacFarlane’s works, more under the radar but with adamant fans, is seeing a continuation after a three-year absence. In much the same way “Family Guy” is both a parody and homage to the American nuclear family sitcoms of old, ‘The Orville‘ mixes together comedy and sincerity within the science-fiction genre. Specifically, the show is more or less MacFarlane making his own “Star Trek” series. What may be fascinating to some is the gulf of divide with viewer reception towards ‘The Orville’ and the various new series within the “Star Trek” universe. While reception with the latter has worsened, reception with the former has improved. So, for those intrigued by a continuation of the original “Star Trek” style of exploration, adventure, and earnestness, “The Orville: New Horizons” may be worth a look.
