'The Silence' Trailer: Stanley Tucci & Kiernan Shipka Star In A Netflix Horror Film That Feels Very Similar To 'A Quiet Place'

We’ll just get this out of the way right away. There’s no denying that Netflix’s upcoming horror film “The Silence” feels very, very, very similar to “A Quiet Place.” But once you get past the obvious similarities, the new film has a strong enough cast, and enough differences from the aforementioned horror film, that maybe it can become the next “Bird Box.”

As seen in the new trailer, “The Silence” tells the story of a family trying to survive in a world overrun by creatures that prey on people as soon as they make a sound. Yes, that’s the same premise of “A Quiet Place.” And yes, “The Silence” also features a young teen who is without hearing. But, instead of weird, alien-like monsters that rip people to shreds, as you saw in John Krasinski’s film, the new Netflix horror film features…uh, bird-like monsters that rip people to shreds. Okay, okay, it’s really like “A Quiet Place.”

“The Silence” is directed by John R. Leonetti, who is best known as the director of “The Conjuring” spin-off, “Annabelle.” The cast includes Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter, and Kyle Breitkopf. Shipka and Otto are probably welcome additions to the film, at least to fans of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” which features both actresses prominently.

“The Silence” arrives on Netflix on April 10.

Here’s the synopsis:

When the world is under attack from terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, 16-year old Ally Andrews (Kiernan Shipka), who lost her hearing at 13, and her family seek refuge in a remote haven. But they discover a sinister cult who are eager to exploit Ally’s heightened senses. THE SILENCE is directed by John R. Leonetti (ANNABELLE) and stars Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter and Kyle Breitkopf.
