Twee Alert: Trailer For Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi's 'Paper Heart' Debuts

The first trailer for Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi’s “Paper Heart” has been unveiled after being attached to “17 Again” over the weekend (what, seriously?)

The part documentary, part fictional feature directed by Nicholas Jasenovec follows Yi on her precious quest to document her skepticism on the concept of love. The film seems to transition between the documentary and a fictionalized love story between her and Cera (who’s also her real life boyfriend) that interplays with her journey.

The trailer certainly provides evidence for the previous description of the film as ‘combining elements of storytelling, reality and fantasy’ and seems to really magnify and play off all the awkwardness and wit that has paid off for Cera and, to a lesser extent, Yi (“Knocked Up”) in the past. Whether that will entertain or annoy the hell out of us with its gleeful twee-ness remains to be seen (Vulture once called it a “holocaust of Twee,” LOL). Cameos in the film are set to be aplenty though with ones evident from the trailer alone including Demetri Martin, Martin Starr and Seth Rogen.

“Paper Heart” screened at Sundance to mixed reviews and won the award for Best Screenplay; despite not having a screenplay in the first place. It is set for a limited release on August 10th. Check out the trailer below or for the HD version and a full synopsis, head over to Apple.
