Based on the award winning BBC television series, “The Thick Of It,” “In The Loop” is an upcoming political satire film starring among others James Gandolfini, Peter Capaldi, Steve Coogan and Gina McKee. If it is anything like the series it was based on, ‘Loop’ will be a very unique fast paced comedy about the happenings of government. Sounds boring, right? Trust us, it’s anything but.
The T.V. series was very entertaining and the protagonists, despite their powerful government positions, were very relatable. The situations they found themselves in are often of significant importance as they affect a whole nation but their according reactions to these situations are not far off ones that you’d find from your average citizen or less. Imagine David Brent or Michael Scott as a government minister.
While most characters from the T.V. series won’t be returning for ‘In The Loop’, one who will is cult-hero Malcolm Tucker, superbly played by Peter Capaldi. Tucker is the press coordinator for the Prime Minister of Britain and his mannerisms is one that would make “Entourage”s Ari Gold look like a grade school teacher. To get an idea of what the character is like, you can see a clip of him in action here or the trailer below.
“In The Loop” comes out in the U.K. April 17th. It is yet to have a release date in the U.S. but played at Sundance Film Festival to favourable reviews and IFC Films did buy it in January, so presumably it’s coming relatively soon or later this year . – Simon Dang
