'Twilight' Star Kristen Stewart To Play Rocker Joan Jett In 'Runaways' Biopic

Going from the object of vampiric lust (with no consummation of course) in “Twilight” Kristen Stewart no has her eyes set on rock n’ roll adoration.

Remember former music video director Floria Sigusmondi’s long-planned, all-girl ’70s rock group, “Runaways” biopic? (we reported that back in early 2007)

Well, looks like Stewart has been cast as Joan Jett according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Last we heard (in the summer), the film was to begin shooting this fall, but looks like casting took a little longer than planned. The film, once titled, “Neon Angels” is now simply titled, “The Runaways.”

Who will play Runaways members, guitarist Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox? No word yet, but we smell a “here’s who they should cast!” piece from someone soon (maybe even us if we catch a breath; yeah, we just gave the idea away, oh well…)

Shooting is supposed to start in early 2009, presumably when the rest of the cast is announced, but we imagine this is a good opportunity for young female Hollywood to start making calls to their agents asap. They’ll be now complaining that there ain’t no good female roles on this one.

Apparently the one caveat for the film? The filmmakers will be working around Stewart’s “Twilight” schedule as the sequel, “New Moon” is expected to shoot sometime in first-quarter 2009, which means ‘Runaways’ may have to wait until the spring or later to start production (Also who knew, “New Moon” was starting so soon?). Hopefully this is better than say, “What We Do Is Secret,” another recent ’70s L.A. rock (albeit punk) film that was pretty average.
